Terri Schiavo’s Family: Where They Are Now
- Genres:Brad Mattes, Counseling & Coaching
Terri Schiavo’s mom and dad, Mary and Bob Schindler, her sister, Suzanne, and her brother, Bobby shared a deep sadness after their daughter and sister died unnecessarily, a legal battle and love story that riveted the entire country. In this episode, four years after Terri’s death in 2005, Brad revisits the family and learns that the message the media shared with the public wasn’t the whole truth.
The Schindler family founded the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation (now Terri Schiavo Life and Hope Network) and Terri’s Day to support and educate families on a similar journey to protect a loved one’s life. Families such as the Richardsons take solace in the foundation’s work.
Randy Richardson’s daughter, Lauren, was on life support after an accident left her in a coma. Lauren was 12 weeks pregnant at the time, so doctors decided to do all they could to stabilize Lauren until the baby was viable. After she gave birth to her daughter, the medical tide turned, and Randy found himself in a battle to keep Lauren alive. Eventually doctors and the family came to a resolution regarding the value of Lauren’s life, and at the time of filming she was receiving the physical support needed to bring her home.
Suzanne, Bobby, Mary, and Bob are encouraged to know they are helping families protect the lives of loved ones. Through their experience they know life is too valuable to measure.
