In this message on John 1: 43 – 51, Jesus calls his disciples and gives them great assurances of his true identity. Nathaniel is amazed at Jesus’ knowledge that he’d been under the fig tree when Phillip had called him to come see the Messiah. But Jesus tells Nathaniel that he will show him even greater things. He connects his assurances back to Jacob’s vision of the opening of Heaven. Jacob desires to make a temple there, calling the place Bethel. While Jacob never builds this temple, Jesus himself becomes the fulfillment of the Bethel “House of God” as he dwells among us and opens the way to God and Heaven.
