Ep 58 James Chapter 6 – Pt 2
We’re looking at the physical problems that we have to pray through. We have to have a breakthrough through our physical problems, but it has to come through prayer And Vicki and I are gonna be looking now at our second program in James Chapter five. Prayerful and physical troubles join us as we jump into this study. Thanks for coming back again with us. Hey, we’re so glad that you’ve rejoined us tom and Vicky with. It’s all greek to me. And we’re gonna be looking at James 5 10 through 16 about prayerful in physical trouble. And uh, it’s amazing to me, Vicki that whenever I get into physical trouble and of course there are many people, they may get the flu, they may get, it may break a leg or a hand or they may have some real major problems like cancer or leukemia. You might get into a heart attack or a brain aneurysm. It seems like for me when things are like that, that’s when I really cry out to God. I don’t know why I was so selfish with that kind of physical trouble, but it seems to me that I’m always thinking, okay, because you’re wondering, hey, did I do something wrong to get this? I don’t know about me, but that’s about you, but that’s me. Well, I thank God, I haven’t been really very had a problem with any physical trouble in my life right now. But um, I am a consistent person who really praise. And so every day I want to start my day with prayer with God because I don’t want to live without him on this planet. Our days are numbered and we’re in our seventies and I’m the same way we’re both like that. I know we start the day in prayer, we get the word and we ended in prayer. It’s really cool for you and I to really know that that is our center is to be looking to God in prayer. Prayerful in physical trouble as an example which you know, you look back at the bible examples, all your examples brethren of suffering cock open path. Eah, Cocopa theo, which is to experience bad in your life. What we considered bad because you know, uh, God tells us and we know that God works all things together for good to those who love God to those who are called according to his purpose. But when you, when you go through a sickness, when you go through terrible tragedy, you many times interpreted as bad and so in suffering cock Carpathia and patient, he says, and patient macros anemia. Take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. So now we look at the illustrations in the past and see how they dealt with all of this. Uh, pick it up. James verse 11 5 11. We count those Blessed Makarios who endured epo meno, you have heard of the endurance ceremony of job and have seen the outcome Tello’s of the Lord’s dealings that the Lord is full of compassion. Police. Police police as much is in her bowels like emotion. Is it the inner motion and is merciful. So two words dealing with mercy here is very interesting how that God sees people that are hurting like you and me and his compassion. He’s merciful towards us, full of compassion and is merciful is the Lord the outcome. And we’ve seen this through the prophets testimonies and especially in jobs life here as we have noticed that God told job he just wait, wait it’s not over till it’s over. So but above all my brethren do not swear o’neill either by heaven or by earth or with any other or coz oath. Okay. But your let your yes be yes and your no be no. That you may not fall under judgment. It’s so easy to complain when you do go through terrible evil that X. That you’ve experienced that I’ve experienced and you you can say things do things in anger, you know uh and and make make all kinds of promises that you don’t keep you wind up not keeping. Has that ever happened to you? Yeah. Well I don’t I don’t think I’m I swear but I have I’m going to blah blah blah and I haven’t done it, you know? And just to think that when we’re pressured God tells us to be very careful what comes out of our mouth because it’s like a sword. Well he says, let your yes be yes and your no be no. And that it’s interesting because any more than this, he says in Matthew five is of the evil one, not just evil of the evil one, it’s it’s really satan has an opportunity to do something and the same thing here and then we fall under judgment because we wind up doing something that’s wrong and we don’t want to do that. And is anyone among you suffering? This is really cool. It’s almost like a prescription let Vicki read this. Go ahead. Honey, is anyone among you suffering Kako patio? Then he must pray Prosecco foam. Is anyone cheerful to male? He is to sing. So God says when you’re cheerful starts singing praises songs and then he says, is anyone among you sick then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil. This is a picture of the holy spirit and also it’s also medicine back then clean wounds and everything. Uh, in the name of the Lord always knowing that the lord owns us in the name of the Lord bringing the Lord into the picture of this tragedy and the go ahead and the prayer if he offered in faith will restore. So. So the one who is sick come now spent ready to collapse, especially overworked, overly tired and in need of physical healing. This is uh, something that we experienced, a lot of people call it or you’ve been, you’re burnt out, burned out. And yet it’s really it’s it’s really something that is induced on us because we don’t sleep right, we don’t eat right, we don’t rest were. It’s really physical deterioration because of neglect or overwork. And so it says and the Lord will raise him up and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him. Now. It’s interesting. It’s connected also, not only physically but spiritually. Exactly. And that’s what john says. That may your soul prosper even as your body prospers. The body and the soul and the spirit and the heart and the mind and the emotions all connected. You cannot just separate this or that it’s so true, isn’t it? It is. And the word for forgive here is the word to release to really a theme, you know. And uh we talked about that with the goats. Yes, the under grace that there was one redemptive, there was one goal for redemption and another one for release. This one is the release that that we get released out of that prison that we’re in, go for it. Therefore confess your sins to one another and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous Man can accomplish much God calls it at a yell which is energizing prayer and it says it’s they cease, its being specific prayer Of the righteous man in verse 16 will accomplish. And that here again much accomplished meaning the energy will be there for God to be able to work. And of course it’s got to be done in faith. You know, we’re not just gonna confess our faults and just kind of think, you know, this is some kind of a formula or a recipe or abracadabra, you have something to say. They’re well, we had read in James 42 for indeed we have had good news preached to us just as they also, but the word they heard did not profit them because it was not united by faith in those who heard that’s hebrews chapter four verse two. Yes. And then the second one, I had written down was he was 11, 6 and without faith, it’s impossible to please God. For he who comes to God must believe that he is, that he’s real and that he is a reward er of those who seek him. God will reward you seeking him crying out to him. We had all those words in our former study that you were crying out with extreme emotion classroom. Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah. And here it gives us now, the kind of the steps and this is what we need to know that God does give us clear steps for economic pressure for physical trouble. Economic trouble, physical trouble, National trouble and also church trouble. He gives us answers here are the some of the answers. Look back to God’s examples for encouragement, verse 10, IPO dogma And Jesus actually said it in John 1315. He said for I gave you an example IPO dogma that you also should do as I did to you. So jesus was our ultimate example. But we also have these examples in the old testament how God dealt with abraham and moses and so forth. So here that’s one minute. Tess and and the examples I mean just using this verse that is here, IPO dogma is example. But there are other words in greek for example, I want to give them to you with the other one is minorities which we get mimic from uh it’s it’s transliterated into into english. You see this word in first Thessalonians chapter one verse six you also became imitators. Many tests of us and of the Lord having received the word in much tribulation with the joy of the Holy Spirit. Take the next one here. Vicky tipos is a tipo is to strike repeatedly properly a modeled forge from repetition figuratively based on reliable precedent for others to follow. It’s a right example and a proper pattern like a prototype. Yes. Then you can stamp all these others that’s the word for example depose and also sigma. So now we go into first Thessalonians. This is where you find these words chapter one verse seven first timothy 4 12. And I love this first, let no one look down on your youthfulness but rather in your speech conduct. Love faith and purity. These five areas show yourself an example tipos of those who believe in other words. Vicky the believer is a prototype in these areas speech conduct what I what I say and how I behave, love who I am, really who I am and how affection that I am with others faith, what I believe in purity, how I have behaved and uh in in my life it’s very powerful. Then trust, I’m sorry I was gonna say it’s a good thing to be able to be honest with ourselves and for me and you too often say to each other, you know our example is failing and maybe this area, you know, we have to be honest and say, you know what I need to really go back and re examine how I did this or that or what I said or and never be too proud to humble ourselves and say, you know, I want to change in this area. God help me. The beauty is that we have all these examples in the old testament. We have the ultimate example in jesus and of course all the apostles As you look at their lives and the next principle, trust the promise of blessing compassion, mercy from God on those who endure verse 11 job, the all star example of endurance and the Lord said to satan have you considered my servant job. There is no one like him on the earth a blameless and upright man fearing God and turning away from evil. Now that was God’s testimony. But elephants had another testimony. He said it’s not your wickedness. Great. The job and your iniquities without end. I mean, you know people see when they think oh man he deserves what he’s getting. He’s really messed up. And God saying there’s my boy, there’s my old star. We have to be very careful not to bring judgment on people who are going through tremendous pressure. Police knows God is, it says about God that he has this many And bowels properly. Many bowels referring to full affection. Visceral used only in James 511 that the Lord is police black nose and then in German he also has on both of them is the word for mercy and compassion. Used of experiencing deep pity uh that God has for his people uh to him as they look to him for help in their difficult situations. And then elio says another word. Three words here for mercy. God defined mercy is used of how the Lord’s covenant shows his feelings at work in scripture. Then is a particular kind of mercy defined by loyalty to God’s covenant. And has said is the hebrew word. You love that word. The word is found also in romans 12 1. I therefore I urge you brethren by the mercy of God. That’s that word Helios. And then the third principle heed the warnings and avoid the judgment of impatient oaths and vows. We we many times make these vows and we, you know, we don’t let our DSPs. I don’t know. We know and we sometimes you know you you say things that hurt your mate or you hurt your child or you hurt your dad friend. We we have to very careful that we heed God’s warnings to let our DSPs and our nobody. No, not just blurt anything out and make any kind of vow and promise to God. And jesus gave us the same instruction though. Yeah, go for it. Matthew 5 34 through 37. But I say to you, make no oath at all. Either by heaven, for it is the throne of God or by earth for it is the footstool of his feet or by Jerusalem. It is the city of the great king. Nor shall you make an oath by your head for you cannot make one hair white or black. But let your statement be yes, yes or no, no, anything beyond these things as evil or of the evil one. Actually the evil one. And then the fourth thing is clear instructions for physical healing and spiritual strength. There are such clear instructions. Look at them. Number one, when you’re suffering. God tells you when you experience this cock Carpathia. When you experience the bad, pray Prosecco, go ahead and read these baby. When you’re cheerful F. D. Mail, we are to sing salo praises. When you’re weak, call for the elders are sick. That is to the point of sickness, call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. Bring God into the picture. I actually did this with the elders of our church for my sweet sister in law. So Sophie and uh forgot to touch her and she, she was able to stay with us for another year or so beyond that date. Almost two years. It was wonderful. Uh, what a sweet powerful warrior of God. And then the prayer if he offered in faith, I will restore the one who is sick or the one who has come nor wasted away, tired, overworked, burned out. And if they have, it says the Lord will raise them up and if they have committed since they will be forgiven. So again it’s connected with the physical problems therefore and here are some instructions of what to do specifically. Therefore, Un in greek therefore confess that’s the first thing your sins to one another. And that’s so important and I’ll talk about that later and pray process for one another. There’s another one another so that you may be supernaturally healed God. There is supernatural healing when we confess our sins. Vicki don’t you know that Absolutely. And the effective energy prayer day cease of a righteous man can accomplish much. Yeah. So the confession and the prayer and the confidence that God will answer us. I saw a whole revival break out which I will tell you in the preaching time in a school in Peoria Illinois because of one young man’s confession because someone had stolen the senior trip money and I was able to deal with that situation with the senior class and what revival broke out spiritually because of that particular thing that happened at Peoria christian school and God did bring healing. Many people were saved and God brought a testimony and all of peoria was on the front page of the Peoria newspaper that sunday tremendous well that’s the message that God wants us to to uh have in regard to this passage of scripture for on how to deal with these problems. When we go through them in our own personal life trouble uh in our own personal life, God bless you Prayerful and physical troubles. That’s what we’re looking at in James chapter five verses 10 through 16 Prayerful and physical troubles as an example. IPO dogma brethren of suffering Kako panacea and patients macro femia take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. We’re gonna look back at how these men of God responded and principles that came out of their life when they went through the physical trouble. We count those blessed baquerizo or Makarios who endured roman knee or a poem a nail. You have heard of the endurance IPO money of job that is the in the noun form and have seen the outcome. The Tello’s of his patients of the Lord’s dealings that the Lord is full of compassion. Police black nose and his merciful Lichterman. Now you know this verse and john and James chapter one verse four go very closely together because notice what it says and you have seen the outcome which is the telus of his patients, which creates maturity, Beautiful vs Scripture. And then 12 above all my brethren do not swear. I’m neo either by heaven or by earth or with any other oaths or codes. But let your yes be yes and your no be no for that. Would you would fall under judgment if you allow the evil to creep in? Is anyone among you suffering then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing salo praises. Is anyone among you sick as well? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. You see the connection between the physical and the spiritual. It’s not just about called for the doctor, this person’s dying. How about call for the elders that there are spiritual reasons for physical problems. This is so important. We need to take that into account. Do not become like ASA. It says in Second Chronicles 16 12 and in the 39th year of his reign, AsA became diseased in his feet. His disease was severe. Yet even in his disease, he did not seek the Lord, but the physicians oftentimes we look for physical help with doctors and rather than going to God and looking to the spirit of God and to the Word of God and to God Almighty to do for us, what the doctors cannot do for us. And so James chapter five going on verse 15 and the prayer if he offered in faith. So it’s not enough to just pray. It’s to pray and include faith in it. That’s what it says in Hebrews chapter four that they did not receive the promise that was given to them because it was not united with faith, It is impossible to please God without faith. Hebrews chapter 11 verse six In Ephesians 2 8 and nine for by Grace. And we say wow through faith, not of ourselves. So, faith is so important here offered in faith will restore or so, so not so so for salvation. But it also could. It also means healing. And uh and remedy. The one who is sick communal. Here, it is the one who has burned out. The one who has wasted the one who is down and out. The one who is depleted of any physical strength just worn out physically and the Lord will raise him up and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him a fee, he will be released out of the prison. And then therefore it says confess your faults one to another and pray one for another that you may be healed? The effective prayer of a righteous man avails much. Let me, let me tell you about Peoria Illinois. I mentioned it before Peoria Illinois. We I was preaching at this incredible christian high school and and and and uh grade school and middle school and God sent revival. But he sent it because there was confession. one of the young men that that you know was was there in the graduating class that I he got up. I said if you got sins, if you’ve got problems, you want to confess it, let’s pray for you. And he got up. He says, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you. He’s telling everybody that he was enemies with he says. But today jesus christ saved my soul and I can’t hate you anymore. I asked him to forgive me and lift it up and then the whole place started crying and uh and and people confessed that the money that was stolen for the senior trip. Uh they they dealt with it. We confessed we had about uh, I don’t know 100 200 young people repented and came to the Lord through that whole experience in the middle school and in the high school and God sent sweet revival. Why? Because one young man, Gabriel, his name was, opened up his heart and talked about the bitterness and the hate that he had for certain people in his class, wouldn’t it be a refreshing thing for christians to go to people that they are holding grudges and they they have been offended. They’ve got bitterness they’ve been sinned against and they can go and they can first get it right with God and then go to the person and and ask for forgiveness if they’ve offended somebody and ask for forgiveness and clean it up and clear it up. That’s what it talks. This is what it’s talking about in verse 16. Therefore confess exa your sins to one another and pray process woman for one another. So that you may be supernaturally healed the effective in the year prayer. They see specific prayer, not just pray around the globe, specifically God I have pride or God, I have cursed or God I’ve stolen this or God, whatever the specific thing is accomplish as much. Yes. So that is really what we’re talking about here and God will bless us if we confess our sins. One to another, confession is not just to be done. Uh, as many times in the greek, Orthodox and roman catholic churches, people behind closed doors and you know, and uh confession is great that way. I think that’s one of the reasons why psychology psychiatry. It is so effective. People actually sharing what’s going on in their life, to a priest, to a to another person, having accountability groups? All of that is great. But there’s nothing like if you’ve offended somebody, if you’ve sinned against somebody for you to go and confess your sin to that mom or dad or brother or sister or cousin or somebody and that you with your mouth. X. X. Um A logo uh confess my sin to one another and not just one person but because when you do something wrong and you ask someone to forgive you they also will then turn around and ask you to forgive them. It’s just the way it is when the spirit of God breaks hearts and and most important is for us to go to God and to confess with our mouth that the Lord jesus christ is God is Lord. The man jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God not only did he die on the cross for our sins and was buried but he physically bodily arose again from the dead. And that we would ask him to forgive us. Oh dear God thank you for loving us, Jesus thank you for dying on the cross for us. Please come into our hearts. Come into my heart and save me from my sins. This is a prayer of confession which really saves me and then it gives me the power to also have a relationship with those around me and to be able to now live a life of confession. You repent until your dying day Spurgeon once said God bless you with tom and Vicky. It’s all greek to me until next time.
