What can you do about an abusive spouse or partner?

The sad reality is that millions suffer from an abusive spouse every year. The pain inflicted by spousal abuse, from a husband or wife, can last a long time, but healing is possible.

This type of violence and abuse impacts every age, race, gender, religion and socioeconomic background.

At its core, abuse is mistreatment. There is a great deal of fear, control, manipulation and intimidation that occur in any abusive relationship. The abuse can range from harsh language and threats to physical violence and sexual assault.

Even when reason seems skewed, the Psalms offer hope for the afflicted.

“You hear, O LORD, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, defending … the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more.” (Psalm 10:17-18)
