Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.”
Psalm 63:3
With happiness and sheer abandon! That’s how Linda worships God. Yes, she may be physically hampered by severe rheumatoid arthritis, and she has a difficult time lifting her arms above her wheelchair. But you cannot miss the unbridled passion in her worship. Linda demonstrates that faith-filled suffering is essential when it comes to intense, authentic worship. Pastor John Piper wrote, “When we are most satisfied with God in suffering, He will be most glorified in us in worship.”* That’s what you can see in Linda. Her afflictions have become the perfect display of the worth of God in her life. Today’s Scripture reads, “Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.” Linda firmly believes that Jesus’ love is better than a life filled with the unremitting pain of rheumatoid arthritis—and it shows in her joyous, unrestrained praise.
Dear Lord, if I had eyes to see, I think I would see angels worshiping You on either side of Linda’s wheelchair. It’s so clear at such times that she’s occupied with You alone, paying little attention to the world around her. Thank You for her example! I want to worship You—declare Your worth—in difficult times as well as in easy times.
