Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens, your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the ocean depths. You care for people and animals alike, O Lord. How precious is your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of your wings. Psalm 36: 5-7
As a little girl I would imagine God as this untouchable Supreme Being. Honestly, I was intimidated by God and the concept of His Almighty Presence. And developing a personal relationship with Him, as a child, was beyond my comprehension. Could God really care about one little girl, let alone every other little girl and boy, and all of creation?
As an adult, God reached out and exposed my heart to the light of His love. The heart of God was the answer to all my questions. God cared for us so much that he sacrificed his only Son. What father would willing do that for another person?
But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. Romans 5:8
First and foremost, love is at the center of God’s heart! Everything, and I mean everything God does is out of an abundance of love for you. He doesn’t even require you to cleanup your act to be acceptable. Jesus washes all the dark spots white with his blood. His love is not conditional, it is unconditional, sacrificial love, never-ending love, freely given, and always faithful. God loves you as much today as when you were that sweet smelling, freshly bathed, newborn baby!
His love is not merit based or performance driven, or how good or bad we have been. His very nature is rooted in love for all humanity. It cannot be earned; it is freely given for all to enjoy. The Apostle John simplifies the entire gospel in this one verse. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
Yes, God loves you, but to truly experience the measure of His love you must receive His love by believing in Jesus. Otherwise, it is like leaving a gift wrapped, and never feeling the essence of God’s love! Knowledge of the love of God has no saving quality, you must believe in the life saving blood of Jesus. Once you decide to receive God’s love, your eternal time with Him begins and will never end.
Romans 8:38-39 promises, “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
The best part of our new life with God is his willingness to be there through everyday life. It is so good to bring all my questions before the Lord and His wise counsel. With all that’s going on, not to oversimplify, but I need a third eye. He is my wisdom on whether to turn left or right. Look, I don’t know about you, but I learned too many hard lessons early in life trying to do things my way.
God’s heart is a heart of wisdom and wise counsel. I have learned that I can trust God with my whole heart. His plans are always good and in my best interest. When I try to figure things out, my human thinking and understanding subtlety limits the power of God. He has BIGGER PLANS and BIGGER DREAMS for my life than I could ever achieve or even imagine on my own!
I should have listened to my earthly father as a teenager, but because I had trust issues in my childhood, I didn’t. Because I didn’t listen to his wise counsel, my early life was a series of poor decisions and unrealized potential. Once I surrendered my life to Jesus, my past was forgiven, and my future was greater than I could have imagined! It is all about the heart of God!
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5-6
God’s heart is a heart of forgiveness. If we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 1 John 1 :9
While we like to place limitations on people and their terrible, unforgivable terrors to mankind, God says the blood of Jesus cleanses all who repent and ask forgiveness of their sins. No matter what they have done, His blood is sufficient! He also commands us to forgive one another, no matter the offense or crime.
Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Colossians 3:13
Can you imagine forgiving someone who murdered a family member? The black congregation invited 22-year-old Dylann Roof to pray with them. But instead, Roof opened fire during their Bible study killing nine people, including the Pastor of the church. Lacking remorse during his trial, there were still three family members who chose to forgive the murderer.
Only God can help us forgive the unforgiveable! And the same blood that pumped through the heart of God while on this earth is available today for those wanting to be washed in the blood of the Lamb!
