ask dr. youssef why did jesus speak in parables

The Lord Jesus Christ, the greatest preacher that ever lived, preached by story, by riddle, by illustration. Why? Because a story can help bring a theory into practice; it can help us understand an abstract idea and apply it to real life. Jesus used parables to reveal to His people the very heart of the Father. Through stories, He uncovers for us the essence of God, His Kingdom, and how He wants to relate to us.

If you have been listening to me for a while, you know that seldom do I preach a sermon without sharing some sort of illustration or story in order that you might remember it and remember what the Word of God says.

In Matthew 13:15, Jesus also talks about the hardness of the hearts of His hearers who are refusing to believe in Him. You see, people don’t hear from God because they don’t want to hear from God. But Jesus promises that when, by the power of His Spirit, people’s eyes and ears are opened to understand His teaching with repentant hearts (see Ezekiel 36:26), He heals them—He brings salvation and peace as only He can. So I urge you to seek the Lord, study His Word, and pray that God would soften the hearts of those in your midst, that they might hear and receive His Truth and be saved.
