Ep 60 James Chapter 5 – Pt 4
Hi there, thank you for coming back again to it’s all greek to me. We are just so thrilled and excited that you’re following the study on praying through the economic trouble and personal trouble. And and uh national trouble. And now church trouble, which is people trouble and problems. And when you deal with people, you have to go to God’s word. That explains how to deal with people, it’s so important. And let’s just go right into the discussion with Vicki and me and we’ll get to it. We’re talking about the last program in James five church trouble. I mean, it’s economic trouble. It’s personal trouble. It’s national trouble. It’s church trouble and trouble with dealing with people. Like somebody said, you know, the wonderful thing about church. I love church. If it wasn’t for people, you know, so people have trouble and problems. And that’s what we’re talking about here when we’re looking at the Church trouble, christians that once loved God. All of a sudden, they don’t want to read the bible. They don’t want to hang out with christians, they don’t want to pray. They don’t want to come to church. They don’t, you know, do whatever they want to do. And so we’re gonna look at that right now, Vicki, we’re gonna get into the scripture. You’ll read the words to us prayerful in church troubles my brethren. If anyone among you strays from the truth. And one turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way, will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins. It’s interesting when it says my brother. If anyone among you strays plan now goes a different way. And of course from the truth, the truth is not just a concept, it’s a person, jesus said in john 14 6, I am the way I am the truth. I am the life. So the truth is strays away from jesus christ. You know, you stopped loving jesus, you stopped reading the bible, you stopped being transparent, you stop really wanting to be around with God’s people. It just you forget everything. And so that’s what he’s talking about. It. Let him know, okay, if you be stressful epi is you bring him around and stressful ways to turn if you bring him and turn him back to that person the truth and let him know unesco through experience that he who turns a pastry for a sinner, Amartya Lows from the era plan any of his way will save so, so his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins, ethos is many like plethora of sins you see and calypso is the cover. Of course, love covers a multitude of sins. It tells us that over and over and over again in various uh scripture versus uh, the word plan now you see probably go straight set off course, deviate from the correct path. Why don’t you continue Rome into error, wander, it’s passive and be misled. It is the root of the english term planet, A wandering body. This term nearly always conveys the sin of roaming. For an exception in hebrews 1138 and Matthew 1812. But it is used as gone astray and a T Robinson r word planet is from Poland. Now wandering, moving stars that they were called as opposed to fixed stars. But now we know that no stars are fixed. They all are moving and rapidly meaning deviating from God’s course or they get off track. So God has put us on the course. The course is jesus christ when we deviate from him. We are like the stars that are going away from the of course that God has put us on. And uh and the the idioms uh concerning this e o me the 23 90 in strong’s is to be healed, but to be also supernaturally healed. Yeah, we say stingy Youssou in greek when we when we drink whether it’s wine or some drink Tenia Su Destiny, a shoe to your health. Uh You know, we also use it for Yasu for hello and Yasu for goodbye. And but it’s really talking about well being or for your health uh in a supernatural, particularly by supernatural means uh, luke 17 15 next to one of them of the 10 lepers. Having seen that he had been supernaturally healed turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice. That’s the word that he uses if you turn him back from the error of his way to heal or to draw full attention to the Lord as the healer, recognizing that he is the great physician, physical healing itself with its benefits. Um okay, so let’s just stop right there. Let’s just stop right there and think about this incredible uh passage of scripture and what I did was I also went into uh the other passages in the bible that I want to just point out a little bit Uh concerning restoring a sinning brother. This is really what it’s talking about. You know, if one of you brings back somebody who has gone away from the truth and he has followed the error of his way is talking about that, it says you’ve turned him back uh and in Matthew 1815 through 20, it tells us clearly the Lord tells us how to do this. So Vicky, why don’t you pick it up and read those passages? I’ll read the next one. If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private, That’s a good point. Yes. If he listens to you, you have won your brother. But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you. So that by the mouth of two or three witnesses, every fact may be confirmed. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church and if he refuses to listen, even to the church, let him be to you as a gentile or a tax collector, wow, that means that treat them like an unbeliever, they have nothing to do with the body of christ truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth will have been loosed in heaven. Again, I say to you that if two of you agree on earth about anything that he may ask, it shall be done for them by my father who is in heaven. That’s a good promise. So we get on our knees as a couple and we claim it together. God says if it’s his will, it’s going to happen. I mean power in prayer, authority and prayer is what it’s talking about here, that God will use our Uh you know, conveying the truth to someone, speaking the truth to someone and if they repent, then we can confirm to them. Like it says in Luke 20 for your sins are forgiven. We actually can let them know because Jesus died, was buried and rose again here. If they don’t listen in private, then you take uh someone, you go to two or three more witnesses that every fact may be confirmed. It’s not to gang up on them. It’s so that other people can hear the scenario, the you know, so that they can also give their opinions about what they think, maybe someone’s not getting the details right is one of the reasons why when you have a court of law, you know, and you have a jury and they’re all listening and they’re checking things out. This is God’s jury where they’re listening to what happened and you have two or three witnesses, that every word may be confirmed what happened and who did what, that’s what it says. And if if he still refuses, then you bring it to the whole body, the whole church. And and if he still refuses, you treat that person like he’s an unbeliever. And you have to be very careful to do it. God’s way many people don’t do it this way. They keep the secret. They whisper about it, they slander the person. Have you ever experienced that? It’s difficult to do it that way. But it’s it’s the biblical way to do it this way. The confusion. If somebody really has a real problem in the church, you want it to be known because they may be put in a classroom with Children, they could be in a sunday school teacher or whatever. So we always have to be careful who we put in authority and we have to make sure that they are, who they say that we protect the people of God. They don’t have a double life. A lot of people are, you know, our human nature is very sneaky. Now, where do you get these principles from? Like in verse 17, you know, and or 16, for instance, three, you know, two or three witnesses. Well, it tells you this in Deuteronomy 1915, a single witness shall not rise up against the man on account of any iniquity or sin, which he has committed on the evidence of two or three witnesses. A matter shall be confirmed. So you just can’t believe one person, you have to confirm it, Galatians chapter 61 through five. Vicki picked that up brethren. Even if anyone is caught in any trespass you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness. Say it again. Where we hear priorities. It’s it’s the word for meek or gentle. It’s it’s the word that means to to bring a horse under control. You don’t you don’t break the spirit of a horse, you break the will and uh when when a when a wild stallion has been able to be bridled and brought under so that there could be usefulness. That’s that word, its power under control. Each one looking to yourself so that you too will not be tempted. They’re one another’s burdens heavy load which we carry for another. That’s that word for burden. There is varicose, right, go ahead And thereby fulfill the law of Christ. That’s interesting here because in James 28 we have the king’s law, which is the law of Christ. What is that? That I love my neighbor like myself. If it was too heavy of a load to pick up then you need to go over and help the person. I mean what would I want, what would you want somebody to help us? Even if it was a total stranger. You you say wow, that person you know is is hurting. Let me go, that lady can’t do this, let me go and help them the same thing here and then. But then it says something else, thereby fulfill the law of christ James to eight. The king’s law for if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But each one must examine his own work and then he will have reason for boasting in regard to himself alone and not in regard to another. For each one will bear his own load This 40 40 40 in in a burden carried by an individual. So that’s like a knapsack. Everyone can carry that as men and women of God. We have a responsibility to go after those who have fallen who have gone astray who are overwhelmed with weights on top of them they can’t carry. And God is telling us, look, we need to carry our own knapsack our own load. But then help the other person with this vatos that they cannot carry. You know. And so this is a principle of of God of christ explained to us in these last two verses in James five because we would want someone to come after us if we’ve gone astray. I remember one time one of my christian brothers who had come out of a life of drugs and jail and everything. He was doing so well. And then I I heard that he went and and got into a living with a woman that he wasn’t married to and get his he was trying to impact his wife who was a heroin addict. I went to that apartment and pulled him out of that apartment. So what are you doing here? You’re gonna wreck everything. Not only your relationship with God, but with your wife and you’re gonna, you’re gonna be so sorry. And he repented. He asked for forgiveness. We were able to restore that brother and he was so good and he’s still walking with the Lord today. Years later, almost 35 years later. What a blessing. And that’s what it’s talking about here restore. The brother means the word is Qatar Tiso is used for mending nets. It is used for putting bones back together again. That’s the image found in Galatians. Chapter 61 through five restore that brother meaning put that broken bone back together again. The original word is used in a physical sense of repairing broken nets of the gradual completion of furnishing the material in creation is more commonly employed in the new testament in a figurative sense, when he has perfected being put together and made whole. It’s like maturity, maturity. That’s why that’s their second Corinthians 26 through eight, sufficient for such a one is the punishment which was inflicted by the majority so that on the contrary you should rather forgive and comfort him otherwise, such a one might be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. Wherefore I urge you to refrain, reaffirm rather your love for him. This was a person in 1st Corinthians who was committing gross immorality and now he’s repenting and paul is saying, hey, welcome him back, encourage him, forgive him and don’t let him will be overwhelmed with this incredible emotion. Vicky. Why don’t you take the last one is the principle of do unto others as you would want them to do unto you if you know that somebody’s been hurt so badly and since so badly and heavy laden with guilt to the point where they don’t even want to go and be around christians anymore. No, go back can be open about it in the church and get it out and you’re healed and go back into living the life God wants for you. Uh this verse here, Simon Simon behold, satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat. But I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail and you when once you have turned again strengthen your brothers. So the Lord had faith and knew that Simon Peter, he was coming back to full strength and being willing to die for the Lord. Well, the beauty of this is that even though his faith was eclipsed in this instance. And jesus is telling him, satan was behind it, that he was trying to sift him and shake him up like wheat. But jesus prayed for him. So our prayers are powerful. Our prayers are powerful to help those around us that have been shaken up by the devil himself who have been attacked. And once you have returned, once you get things right with God and you start putting things in order, then you have a testimony and then you have the experience of how you’ve been now brought back from going astray that you can go and help somebody else. That’s the whole point. And that’s what jesus tells peter here. Once you’ve turned again, then go and strengthen your brothers. So listen, you may have been away from God, you may have just been brought back to God be encouraged. God is gonna use you again to bring those others that are still away from God and to bring them healing encouragement and strength from your heavenly father, God bless you. Church troubles Is people troubles and problems. That’s why we have to be ready in dealing with people in the church to be able to teach them how to pray through those troubles and problems. James says in verse 19 of Chapter five, My brethren is this for christians. If any among you strays plan now goes away from the truth. Who is jesus christ, who is the scripture, my word is truth. When you go away and you leave the truth, you leave jesus, you leave the scriptures, you’re not really thinking about it, you’re not really obeying it. And one that is uh someone a christian turns and distressful, him back back to what? Back to jesus, Back to the scriptures, Back to prayer, back to the church, back to the gospel, back to the fellowship, let him know that he who turns a sinner, Amartya loss. This is somebody who’s gotten involved in pretty bad stuff. Whenever it talks about this in the gospels, it was that man is anna marta laws, that woman was. Anna marta. Loss was a big heavy sinner and the same thing here who uh turns a Amartya Los a sinner from the error planet of his way will save so, so his soul from death Thanatos and will cover Galip toe. That’s what love does, It covers over the sin, a multitude of sin. You know, just incredible to me how God will use one person to touch another. One person can influence people for sin, but one person can influence people for holiness and righteousness and doing what is right. God’s word is so clear about this and I want to, I want to take it down to uh uh, the passages of scripture that come to my mind concerning restoring that Sitting brother, you know, when you confess your faults one to another right before this passage and you pray one for another, You begin that healing revival that takes place and you begin to bring people back and introduce them to the word of God like Peter when he was broken hearted and he realized what he had done when he betrayed his Lord and cursed and so forth with an oath and then the Lord went to him individually spoke to him and uh you know there with the disciples because it happened quite publicly and then privately also. So he said to them, do you love me more than these? I think he was talking about the fish, I think he was talking about the disciples. I think he was talking about his whole lifestyle and Peter’s answer was well I’m fond of you. He basically said Phil Phil Phil Osama and jesus said Madiba’s he told him do you love me unconditional love? Yeah. And so when you go to that person to speak to him, if your brother sins, you don’t just say oh forget if that person is not a christian, I don’t want to have nothing to do with him again or her. Go And show him his fault in private. You do this in private. You go you have enough concern to go in private and show him this is Matthew 1815 through 20. If he listens to you, you have won your brother, is your brother, go there with the love of God, don’t go there to condemn the person, go there to restore the person but if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you now you bring a couple of more people so that you can allow that love to extend to other people and that by the mouth of two or three witnesses, every word will be confirmed. You’re not there to put pressure or to add more guilt but to have more restoration. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church a bigger body. And if he refuses to listen to the church, let him be to you as a gentile and a tax collector. In other words, people who are not even as part of the church, they’re not believers. So they’re treated like they’re not believers as it tells us in first Corinthians chapter five and six, that you you don’t even eat with such a person like this anymore. Truly, I say to you, whoever whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven. This all this, this reminds me of chapter 16 when jesus told Peter that he gave him the keys to the kingdom and whatever you bind in heaven and on earth is bound, meaning that there’s agreement, there’s unity, there’s power and uh so that there is a there is a confidence and a unity of the believers, the church concerning someone who had gone astray and now they bring them back and they give them the right hand of fellowship. Again, again, I say to you that if two of you agree on the earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done to them by my father who is in heaven. For whoever, wherever two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in their myths, we need to know that God wants this unity. When people go astray, he wants us to go after them and to let them know God loves them and we love them and bring them back. And then he says, and you do it looking to yourself, making sure that you’re not gonna, you know, be arrogant as you do it with a spirit of gentleness. Each one looking to yourself so that you too will not be tempted. There’s there’s a real danger when dealing with trying to to defuse a bomb, that the bomb could go off and we ourselves could get hurt, Bear one Another’s Burdens Varro’s. We need to be able to see how heavy these loads are on our brothers and sisters go there and pick them up. Help them out. Yes, we are to take care of ourselves, but we ought to help those that cannot help themselves. This is the clear teaching of loving your neighbor as yourself here in scripture and the bible continues God continues to say this is how we fulfill the law of christ, which is the law of the king, which is to love your neighbor as yourself. James chapter two and verse eight for everyone for anyone. For if anyone thinks he is something when he has nothing, he deceives himself. That’s that’s talking about the fact that listen, the most important thing you and I can do is not just be about ourselves but help the other person. We’re not we’re not anything until we really begin to do that and to love our neighbor as ourself. Each one must examine his own work and then he will have reason for boasting in regard to himself alone and not in regard to another. For each will bear his own load fortune, which is like a knapsack a burden carried by an individual. Now let me go down to give you some further scriptures in in the book of first peter above all, keep fervent in your love for one another because love covers a multitude of sin. If you have the right attitude when you go to talk to people, that’s the attitude of love. Love covers a multitude of sin. We’re not interested in picking up the phone and talking about this person or that person we’re gonna cover. We’re gonna forgive. We’re gonna squash it as they say on the streets, psalm 32 1. How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered, this is David speaking about how God covers our sins by notice how blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. How blessed is he? Who The Lord will not impute sin will credit sin in that person’s account, God wants to take it away. He wants to look at you and me like we never did this. Why? Because of the righteousness? Because of the sacrifice of jesus christ? He bled and died, was buried and rose again. We have power to tell this brother who has gone away from christ, that he will accept you back again. My sheep hear my voice and they and they follow me. I give eternal life to them, not just temporary life and they shall never perish my father who was great and it all has them in his hand. John chapter 10 some 85 to how thou didst forgive the iniquity of thy people, thou didst cover all their sin. God doesn’t want to just cover some of it, and you too. And I should not be just interested in. You know, all my sin is forgiven except that one or that one. No. All our sin is covered. It says here proverbs 10 and verse 12, hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all transgressions. Don’t you love that? Love covers all transgressions Now, this is why we uh I love this passage of scripture as we close the last two verses of the epistle of James my brethren, if any among you strays from the truth. Like peter, he straight away from the truth. and jesus prayed for him that he that that his faith would not clip toe would be eclipsed. But after he was restored, he was to go out and he was the minister to his brothers. That’s what it’s saying here. If any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins. That’s the Lord jesus christ by the blood of christ. Our sins are forgiven the blood of christ, john first john one night the blood of christ. First john 17 cleans us from all sin. And if you walk in the light as he himself is in the light, you have fellowship, one with another it says and the blood of jesus christ, his son cleanses us from all sin. Are you under the weight of sin? Have you become a christian? Have you accepted christ? Have you turned to him not? Have you been baptized or joined some church? I’m talking about? Have you repented of your sins and ask God to forgive you and came to God just the way you are and said God, please forgive me, I accept the sacrifice of jesus christ for my soul for my sins, please cleanse me, jesus come into my life and save me. You see that moment that you do that, that you trust by faith the death, burial and resurrection of that sacrifice, the lamb of God. Your sins have been forgiven from heaven. That’s what it means in first John 19 that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all on righteousness. Now if God does that and we tell that to some brother or sister has gone astray and we bring them back to their savior, the Lord, jesus christ and to the scriptures. The I word is truth. That’s what It’s talking about in James chapter five verse 19 and 20 May God bless you and help us all to mature. We’re not there yet. We’re growing, we’re being perfected, were becoming more like jesus christ day by day as we read his word, as we submit to his spirit and as we let his life flow through our life, God bless you, my friends. Until next time when we turn on with tom and Vicky it’s all greek to me
