“At this my heart pounds and leaps from its place. Listen! Listen to the roar of his voice, to the rumbling that comes from his mouth.
He unleashes his lightning beneath the whole heaven and sends it to the ends of the earth. After that comes the sound of his roar; he thunders with his majestic voice. When his voice resounds, he holds nothing back. God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding.”
Job 37:1-5
Have you ever stood at the rail and overlooked Niagara Falls? Better still, have you taken the boat ride under the falls? If you could make yourself heard above the crashing water, you might shout, “God is so awesome!” The book of Job declares, “Listen! Listen to the roar of his voice, to the rumbling that comes from his mouth…. God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways…beyond our understanding.” His voice is mighty. You can hear it in thundering waterfalls, cascading ocean waves, and rolling peals of thunder. But He also speaks in the quiet places of the human heart. And this very day, He is calling broken, unhappy, used-up, cynical men and women to Himself. He gives us the privilege of speaking to people who need Him so desperately. In the power of His Spirit, He gives us the right words at the right moments. But we don’t have to thunder!
Father, I want to speak for You today. Bring me across the path of someone who needs to hear there is a God who loves and cares for them. If I can’t give the whole gospel story, help me to at least point them toward Jesus. Speak through me—through my words and my smile with Your words, and Your smile.
