are you a ship or a submarine

Everyone gets to decide whether they’re a ship or a submarine.

Ships sit on the water, and as long as the waters are calm, the ship is calm. But when things get choppy, the ship will toss around at the mercy of Mother Nature. Because their happiness is based on what happens on the surface.

Happiness happens in the life of a submarine person.

Happiness happens in the life of a submarine person. But a submarine is not limited to what is happening on the surface. No matter how intense the weather, it can only affect the water down to 25 feet. And a submarine can go 26 feet down. Or 126 or 526 feet down! The reason a submarine doesn’t worry about chaos on the surface is because it doesn’t live on the surface. It belongs down deep.

God doesn’t want you to be a ship, bounced around and tossed by the waves. He wants you to be a submarine, so that when things get rough externally, you can say, “Okay, I’m going down deep. Because I have something deep inside that doesn’t depend on what’s happening on the outside.”

So, which are you, a ship or a submarine?

So, which are you, a ship or a submarine? Are you building a deep and lasting understanding of God’s heart? Or are you more prone to being tossed about?

As Paul writes in Colossians: “Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness” (Colossians 2:7 NLT).
